Quantifying Atrial Areas
Tracing the boundaries of both atria on the 4-chamber view may provide an accurate measure of their area (cm2). Traces of the atria should be completed at the end systolic phase—where they are at their largest throughout the cardiac cycle.
The severity of atrial enlargement, if any, may be determined according to the table below.
